The austere features, the sumptuous hairstyle and the crown outline the mysterious and fascinating profile of Roxelana, wife of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and charged with important roles in Ottoman politics and culture.

As a tribute to ceramic art and to Middle Eastern peoples who spread its technique, Roxelana vase-sculpture proposes the female Moorish heads of the Caltagirone ceramic tradition and reinterprets them in a contemporary way; vibrant glazed monochromes, referring to the shades of Sicilian sun, sky and land, highlight the lines and the details.
