Plato Design

MAGNETIC LIGHTING SYSTEM

Plato Design was born in Rome in 2015 by both Alessandro Mattei and Caterina Naglieri, both architects, with the aim of creating a product line with an "European" accent, influenced by both Italian and North European design.

The first project, the D-TWELVE magnetic modular LED lamp, is funded through a crowdfunding campaign that collected over twenty thousand euros from four continents. With the next project, Basic TWELVE, we followed research on the modularity and magnetism themes in lighting systems. The Plato Design lamps have been exhibited at the Milano Design Week, at Maker Faire Rome and at Moacasa, receiveing the Lazio Creative Awards, the Maker Faire Blue Ribbon and the Inarcassa Premia the Ideas.

On Debou we present the entire TWELVE collection.

A short description of your collection.
Basic TWELVE is a line of modular and magnetic lamps in concrete and wood, which includes table and suspension lamps. The Basic TWELVE name is referred to its dodecahedric shape. We worked on the dodecahedron due to the idea that these solids can be combined with each other in different ways, creating organic and unexpected shapes. The project comes by observing the current way of living where home and work environments are often multifunctional and shared. The Basic TWELVE lamps are designed to meet different needs and in continuous change, thanks to their magnetic connection system.

What inspires you?
Games - there is always a component of interaction in our products - , the tradition of Italian lighting design and ALSO the atmospheres of northern Europe, for the materials used in natural and essential lines.

Your style in three words.
playful, playful, playful

Detail makes a difference... What’s yours?
Surely the magnets embedded in our lamps .

Which object do you wish to design?
One of us dreams of designing lamps (and has succeeded ...), the other dreams of designing an object for the garden.

If your brand was a song?
It would be a piece of psychedelic electronic music like "Antitaxi" by Daft Punk's La Femme or Veridis Quo.
